About
Help us Support the Future of Cancer Research
STRIDE stands for Strengthening Treatments with Research Integrating Diet and Exercise. We know that nutrition and movement are powerful tools in preventing cancer and improving treatment outcomes and well-being.
Founded in 2025 by Dr. Jimmy Bagley-a scientist, professor, and cancer survivor-the STRIDE Cancer Foundation is dedicated to advancing research in oncology, exercise, and nutrition. With decades of expertise in skeletal muscle physiology and human health, Dr. Bagley experienced firsthand the transformative benefits of exercise during his own cancer journey.
What sets us apart? STRIDE is the only foundation that directly funds and supports students researching oncology through the lens of exercise and nutrition. By empowering the next generation of scientists, we aim to drive groundbreaking discoveries that explore how movement and diet can enhance treatment, recovery, and remission.
Mission
We fund undergraduate and graduate student researchers investigating how nutrition and exercise can reduce cancer risk, enhance treatment effectiveness, and support recovery and long-term well-being
Vision
We recognize the power of standard cancer treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery-but we also understand that lifestyle factors like diet and exercise can influence their effectiveness. By funding emerging researchers, STRIDE is paving the way for the next generation of scientists and clinicians dedicated to integrating movement and nutrition into cancer care.
We envision a future where personalized exercise and nutrition plans are standard components of cancer treatment, helping individuals not just survive, but thrive.
Join Us
We invite you to join the STRIDE Cancer Foundation in making a difference. Whether you're a student, patient, or clinician, together we can ensure that exercise becomes an integral part of cancer care. Learn more about how you can support our mission, contribute to research, or get involved in our programs below.
What We Do
Advance Cancer Research through Student Grants: We fund and support cutting-edge research that explores how exercise and nutrition can enhance cancer prevention, treatment, recovery, and long-term well-being.
Empower Patients, Care Givers, and Clinicians: We provide resources, support, and guidance on integrating exercise and nutrition into cancer treatment plans.

Meet the Founder
Dr. Jimmy Bagley is a scientist and professor with over 20 years of experience in skeletal muscle physiology, human health, and exercise performance. As the director of the Muscle Physiology Lab at SF State, he has made significant contributions to the field, conducting groundbreaking research featured in prestigious outlets like Discovery Channel, Men’s Health, and The Wall Street Journal. His work has shaped our understanding of how exercise can improve health outcomes across various conditions. For more information on his research, visit his faculty page and Google Scholar.
Researcher - Published over 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles and abstracts.
Professor - Mentored over 75 graduate students and 100’s of undergraduates.
Science Advocate - International grant reviewer, peer-reviewer, and symposium organizer.
In December 2023, after receiving his own cancer diagnosis, Dr. Bagley realized that his fight was not only personal, it was an opportunity to help others. His experience with cancer treatment reinforced his belief in the transformative power of exercise. Combining his scientific expertise with this personal journey, he founded the STRIDE Cancer Foundation to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and real-world application. STRIDE is committed to empowering cancer patients, survivors, and clinicians through the integration of exercise and nutrition into cancer care. The foundation’s mission is not just about surviving cancer, it’s about thriving through evidence-based, personalized interventions that improve both treatment outcomes and quality of life. STRIDE’s approach is grounded in Dr. Bagley’s vision to make exercise and nutrition a standard part of cancer care.
